THE PERFECT PROFESSIONAL BLOWOUT

The Perfect Professional Blowout…At Home!

There’s nothing like a professional blow dry! Your hair looks at its best and it’s tough, if not impossible, for many of us to recreate that sleek, professional look at home. Here are some tips to keep your tresses looking like you just stepped out of a salon:

1. Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair

Make sure when towel drying your hair, always blot – never rub – to get rid of excess moisture. If you want your blowout to last several days, take time to make sure all conditioner is thoroughly rinsed from your hair.

2. Apply a good styling product to towel dried hair

Using a good styling product and working it through every strand of hair is crucial. It can add body to hair that is fine or limp, or be used to keep frizz away from thick or curly hair. For dry hair, apply a leave-in conditioner, such as our Leave-In Protein. Work this product into your hair from ends to roots; comb through. If you have limp hair, try a volumizing mousse or thickening spray.

3. Dry 75% of hair and blow dry your bangs

Doing a blowout on wet hair would take a long time, so the goal here is to get your hair about 75% dry. You can let it air dry or speed things along using a hairdryer. Looking for an extra boost at the roots? Do this step with your head upside down. The heat at the roots will instantly add volume.

It’s important to dry your bangs at this step. If you wait until you do the rest of your hair, chances are your bangs have air dried into an unflattering style. Using a flat or paddle brush, dry your bangs with the dyer pointing downward. It should always be held above your hair, blasting the air downward. With the heat blowing on your bangs, sweep them with the brush first to one side, then to the other. Doing this until bangs are dried ensures straight bangs. This process works on both side-swept and blunt bangs.

4. Divide hair into sections

Comb hair and divide into sections. Secure each section with a clip or ponytail holder. This makes blow drying more manageable and ensures you do each section properly.

5. Use your fingers as a styling tool

Starting at the roots, pull your fingers through a couple of inches of your hair, keeping it very taunt. Using your dryer, shoot the air at the crown on down to dry the roots.

6. Time to round brush

Pull the round brush through your hair, following it with the dryer pointing downward.

7. Cool down to lock in the look

Lastly, for each section, pull hair taunt using the round brush and hit it with cool air using the cool button on your blow dryer. Continue these steps above on each section until hair is dry.

8. Finish with styling serum

Get that silky salon finish look by using our Smoothing Shine Spray. This wonderful mist smoothes, conditions, reduces frizz, and seals your hair leaving behind a radiant shine.
