I’m sure you’ve heard that various kinds of tea can be beneficial for your health, but did you know that some teas can also benefit your skin? Tea is packed with polyphenols, which are molecules that have antioxidant properties. These molecules will hydrate your skin, reduce inflammation, and can reverse the effects of UV damage. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Drinking tea can have a positive effect on your complexion, but using products that are infused with tea extracts prove to be beneficial too. Here are four teas that are loaded with skin superpowers:

Green Tea

Some studies have shown that drinking green tea may help reduce the risk of skin cancer. Even though this is encouraging, you still need to wear an SPF of 30 or greater on a daily basis. Green tea can also decrease inflammation that is associated with aging, protect against sunburn, and potentially protect against long-term UV damage.

Yerba Maté

Looking for youthful skin? You may want to drink yerba maté. It’s packed with antioxidants that will help prevent and repair skin damage caused by free radicals. Yerba Maté also contains a long list of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including vitamin B, vitamin C, manganese, potassium, and zinc (all of which are beneficial for your skin).

Of all the herbal teas, chamomile is the most popular for topically treating skin issues. Chamomile can be used to help treat rashes and inflammatory skin conditions. It also is used to relieve dry, patchy skin and acne.

Rooibos, also known as red tea, is caffeine-free which makes it ideal for women who are expecting or those who want to limit their caffeine consumption. The red tea contains aspalathin and nothofagin, two chemical compounds that are anti-inflammatory. This tea is very useful in treating skin conditions like rosacea or acne.
