We are all well aware of the damaging effects the sun’s UV rays can have on our skin, but did you know that they can also do some serious damage to your hair? That’s right, UVA and UVB rays can wreak havoc on your hair from the cuticle to the inner structure. If you have dry, fizzy, brittle hair, or hair that is color faded, chances are you already experienced sun damage. Luckily, there are some easy ways to protect your locks from the sun!
- Wear a hat. The best way to protect your hair from the damaging rays of the sun is to block it, and wearing a hat is your best option. If you have strands that aren’t covered by the hat, you’ll have to protect those in another way.
- Use styling products with SPF. There are various products that include SPF to help protect your delicate strands. These are great options for giving your hair the protection it needs.
- Directly apply SPF. It’s super easy to make your own SPF spray that can be used on your hair. Simply dilute 2 teaspoons of SPF 25 sun block with one cup of water. Using a spray bottle, spray the product into your damp hair before styling. For added protection, you can mist your hair with the solution throughout the day.
- Protect your part. One final note: please, do not forget about your part. This area is easily susceptible to burning and peeling so apply a full strength SPF to your part to give it the most protection.
