INSTAGRAM: THE PERFECT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM FOR STYLISTS

As a salon hairstylist, you may have put your skills out to the world on Facebook, but have you started to promote your services on Instagram? Instagram is growing in popularity every day and is right up there with Facebook in terms of the hottest social media platforms. This platform alone has over 500 MILLION daily active users. Let that sink in for a minute…500 MILLION!!! That’s a ton of potential clients right at your fingertips! It’s no wonder so many stylists are flocking to showcase their skills on this mega-platform.

Instagram is known for captivating it’s users by showcasing creative, eye-catching photos which makes it the perfect place for hairstylists to show off their skillsets. Below are some ideas on things that you could post that will get you some attention and traction in the world of Instagram. Remember, keep things fresh and exciting by mixing it up with your posts.

BEFORE/AFTER’S

Before and after pictures are sure to spark interest with those scrolling through Instagram! Showing how you can transform someone’s hair from boring and mundane to show stopping in one visit is sure to get you noticed. Be sure to take some pictures from various angles before you get going and then show off their new ‘do in some after pictures. Creating a collage will give a good side-by-side comparison and will clearly show the huge transformation that occurred in your chair. Always make sure your client is comfortable with having their picture taken and ask for their permission to feature their picture on your social media page(s).

 

PRODUCTS

Did you just get some amazing new products in and you can’t wait for your clients to experience them? Let them know! Share a picture and a brief description of why you love these products or what it can do for their hair and it’s sure to get noticed! Keep in mind the 80/20 rule while planning out these posts: 80% of your posts should be to inform, educate, or entertain your audience while 20% should be promotional/sales related.

SPECIAL SALES OR HAPPENINGS

Do you have a special event coming up? Does your salon have a mega-sale on the hottest new products? Let your followers know and share that info on your page! It’s a great way to spread the word and draw in some business.

NEW STYLISTS

If you are a salon owner or manager and have a new stylist come aboard, announce that on your page! Post a picture of the stylist and a few of the work they’ve done because it’s a good way to attract people to their chair and boost their client roster.

GIVE THANKS

Want your clients to feel valued and appreciated? Let them know they are by telling them. Give special clients a shout out on Instagram or give a big thanks to all of your clients for allowing you to take care of such a special part of them – their hair!

KEEP IT REAL

Instagram is a place where you can be yourself. Sharing a funny quote, pictures of yourself, and other personal things is ok, just keep it professional. Don’t overshare or get too overly personal because remember, this is your business page. Allowing people to see a glimpse into your life or letting your personality shine through your posts will let followers relate to you and see you as a whole person rather than just a stylist.
