You know the guy, the one with really great hair that you see at the gym and secretly envy. The one who no matter when you see him, his hair looks perfect, like George Clooney’s. Sure, genetics has something to do with that great head of hair, but a lot of it has to do with what you do to your hair and how you maintain it.
Here are the top 5 habits guys with great hair have:
- They splurge on great cuts.
Every great looking head of hair you will ever see starts with one thing – a great cut. Your haircut says a lot about you so why not invest a little bit and get the best cut possible? A great stylist or barber can cut your hair in a way that works best for your hair type and face shape. Then, they’ll show you what products you should use to maintain the look and will teach you how to use them. You won’t get that kind of service from an inexpensive barber or chain shop.
- They shampoo and condition properly.
Make sure you choose the right shampoo for your hair type (dry, oily, curly, fine, etc.). Then make sure you sue the washing technique. Start by rinsing your hair with water to shimmy out most of the dirt and get every strand wet. Then, apply a quarter-sized amount of shampoo to your fingers and massage onto the scalp (be sure to pay extra attention to the nap of the neck). Rinse thoroughly. Follow the rinse with conditioner. When applying conditioner, there’s no need to get down to the scalp; rinse.
- They avoid chemical services.
Chemically treating your hair is one of the most damaging things you can do to your hair. These treatments break down your hair and once it’s damaged, it doesn’t heal itself. The only real way to “fix” the damage is to wait for it to grow out so you can have the damaged area cut off.
- They dry their hair correctly.
How you dry your hair is one of the biggest ways you can damage your strands. Often times, guys rub their hair with a towel, which causes hair to stretch and become tangled. Some even dry their hair on high heat which is another way to do severe damage. The best way to dry your hair is to pat it dry, style it the way you want, and then let it air dry.
- They take good care of their scalp.
It’s important to take care of your scalp since this is where the hair grows. Wash your hair properly, massage your scalp to help keep it clean, and exfoliate your scalp off and on. This will help keep your scalp healthy, clean, and will increase blood flow which will lead to healthy hair.
